Seventymm.com ... Rent movies..
Just been to a fair in city and came across a company called "Seventymm.com"
The company generates revenue by renting movies. They claim that they rent movies of different languages and movies that got released on any day. Was just thinking, how does this idea work and generate money ?
People do watch movie when they get bored and find some time.. Suppose, if i am feeling bored and want to watch a movie (and if am a member of seventymm.com) then i call them to rent me a movie.
It takes almost 3-4hrs for the company guy to reach my home, due to heavy traffic (specially in a city like bangalore). I have to wait for 4hrs to watch it... and by the time i get the movie, i will get some other work.. It may happen that i may not find time to watch this movie and after 3 days have to return the same to the company person, paying the rent and not watching it..
Also, company has to provide CDs/DVDs of good quality else they may lose customers.in addition to good customer support to keep their customers happy...
Membership fee is Rs250 per month. Also, company will provide new releases after 25 days of the release.. Provided these conditions, i still feel that its better to watch movie on the big screen than going for a rent...I still can't see that this idea will generate any revenue...

There is a huge market for this dude! Imagine seeing the movie you want in your own custom time and place? With new Home theater systems around. Ofcourse some lag here n there..but if well established..Its a good one. I had an idea to make one such website and place for kannada movies. Well..it didnt flow out of my mouth anytime :P
Break down the possibilities into several types and you will have a list like:
1. Family who set aside time to watch a movie at the comfort of home, like on a sunday. This pre-planning gives an easy 2-3 days of notice, which makes the idea a big hit.
2. Another variety of guys, who, like ordering a pizza, plan to watch a movie 3-4 hours in advance, like a husband calling home, and wife (at home) ordering the movie to match the time the husband comes home.
3. A large group of individuals have all the time in the world, ad no better way to spend a day entertaining other friends, watching a movie or more!
4. The next use case is the one you mentioned, which is probably the only negative audience.
5. the bigger house wife audience, who find it hard to go out on their own, but have the whole afternoon to watch a movie everyday!
So.. all in all, if four types of target markets are viable for the business, and we average them all at 20%, then there is a potential 80% who will give a roaring business. What you mentioned is the remaining 20% :)
Another advantage is: Tie ups with CD/DVD manufacturers, will benefit the company by getting movies at subsidised prices.
I agree with ACK..
But one more thing is here is as one of my frnd in industry told rather than going in heavy traffic in weekend n paying on an avg 200-300(including snacks) better to buy a CD from National market.
But hw many CD u wil own..So better to go for rental n watch watever u n ur family want..
:)
